So, we just got back from a week's vacation down the Cape. During our one rainy day we (my wife, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and three children) decided to take in a harbor cruise. We're like the second family in line to get on board, and as we're going across the ramp we realize that there's a photographer taking group shots. Having done the Odyssey Mother's Day brunch cruise every year for the last five years, we know the drill – take a family shot, then sell it at the end of the cruise. Well we've only got half the family with us, it's raining on us, and we'd like to get a good seat. We're only second in line anyway, but the family in front of us has like 12 people and it's a small boat.

So we try to sneak past them and go onto the boat. "Please, wait," says the photographer in heavy Russian.

Fine. We wait. We get our picture taken. I don't bother smiling, since I know we're not buying the picture. I mutter something to him about wasting our time and his film by making us do that.

You see what's coming, right? Anybody that knows my family does.

The cruise goes fine, it's rainy and cold but it's something to do with the kids on a Friday afternoon before lunch. As we're nearing the end, the photographer comes over and hands my mother in law the picture. "Ooooo, I like that, that came out good!" she says. She shows it to my wife who agrees. "How much?" she asks.

"Ten dollars," says the photographer.

We bought two.

Mark is a mummy's boy – He has a history of seeking approval from his mother when it comes to relationships – she had her mind made up when ages was mentioned.. couldn't even remember their names and referred to amanda as i like the "younger" one.. and amanda and her fake tears * rolls her eyes* he'll dump her…

Last week I pointed out that although America's Got Talent is supposed to be a variety/talent show, and although it is produced by the same people that do Idol, somehow 7 out of 10 of the finalists on Talent are singers. This is horrible for the show, as it brings the spotlight down on two very obvious things:

1. If only singers stand a chance, then variety acts shouldn't even bother showing up.
2. None of the singers are even close to American Idol standards.

This week the Calypso Tumblers, one of the few non-singing acts, were kicked off, along with family act The Duttons. That leaves only two variety acts: martial arts group Sideswipe, and singing ventriloquist Terry Fator. I really hope Fator goes all the way through, he's got the most unique talent I've ever seen (a ventriloquist that does impressions of singers??). If he manages to win, it will redeem the show's existence. Sideswipe is not going to win.

Quick note on "Butterscotch", who is also a "singer with a unique talent". Namely that she sings and beatboxes simultaneously, which is intriguing the first time you see it. The problem is that after a few tries it gets dull and boring and all of her song sound like the teacher from Charlie Brown on slow motion. WahWAHWahwahwahWAH, wah WAH…..

yea i was going for Jen she is gorgeous! Amanda is very pretty and young though! So I knew all along and he was gonna pick a youngin! lol Psshh men are totally predictable!

Not fair! Jen should have won. Sure, Amanda cried all the time, was immature, and WAY too possessive. Jen had way more personality, maturity, and wisdom. She spoke up and interacted with Mark's family in the final episode where Amanda was just super quiet and timid during her entire encounter, then goes around getting sympathy votes for being shy. Hands down, if Jen were only younger, she would have won and that is the sad truth. I don't like it any more than the next person but unfortunately, that's the way it is.
