Our favorite quotable TV show is set to premiere soon, on November 30. Apparently Blue Man Group will make a guest appearance.
I don't really care about Blue Man Group (saw them twice, a million years ago), I just wanted a reason to post another story about the Scrubs season premiere :).Entries Tagged 'Television' ↓

[BlogEntry] So, The Rock is downstairs.
November 15th, 2006 — Blogging, Family, Television
Got a message on the company email yesterday that there's going to be a movie filming on our street and in the building next store, so be prepared for the traffic and detours and so on. Turns out that this movie is The Game Plan, starring The Rock. How cool is that? I wandered downstairs today for lunch (nice that it is 60+ degrees outside) and yeah, they're shooting a movie all right. Just like you see…well, in the movies. Lots of big spotlights, and people carrying around what look like posterboards with tinfoil on them. We can't get anywhere near the action, of course, but the crowds are positioned so that you can get a glimpse. I didn't get to see him (yet), but apparently others have, as I heard some conversation like "Can you see him? He's sitting in the front seat of the car. There, he just got out, that's him…"
What reaallllllly annoys me is that according to the trivia for the movie, just last week they were filming in my own hometown! Argh. The Rock was wandering around my home town and I missed it. That's annoying. Surely that would have merited a sick day from work. After all you can hardly expect North Andover to draw the same sort of crowd that downtown Boston does.
Didn't he just make a football movie?
Update: It's funny how different audiences see things. I'm in a meeting, there's a pause while we wait for some people, and I toss out, "So, did anybody go downstairs to see The Rock? He's shooting a movie." Lady across the table looks interested, but kind of shrugs off the reference with, "I don't know who that is. Who else is in it?" "Kyra Sedgewick," I say. "Oh my god I love her!" she says, and begins chatting excitedly with the woman next to her about this woman's movies. All I know about Kyra Sedgewick is that she's Kevin Bacon's wife, and I sat across the row from her on a plane once. One of those moments to kick yourself, because the entire flight I kept wondering, "Is that Kyra Sedgewick?" but not having the guts to ask. She was with two kids. Getting off the plane she even had trouble with her luggage and I should have been a gentleman and offered to help lug it, but I didn't. I think I assumed that when she walked off the plane there'd be people waiting for her or something. Instead I went home, went online and looked her up, and sure enough that was her – the description of the two kids matched perfectly. So now I tell people that my Kevin Bacon number is 2. 🙂
[BlogEntry] Dancing with the Stars : Nov 1 Elimination
November 2nd, 2006 — Television
Quick and simple, Monique goes home this week. It was pretty obvious, really. Mayyybe there was a slim chance for Emmitt (but look at the following he obviously has!) or even Joey, who was in the bottom two a few weeks back. Shame, really, but at least she went out on a good note. The stuff she was doing was pretty hard. And she got her 10s.
But did she have to be so annoying in the confessional booth? I deserved a 10 for my stage dive! I deserved a 10 for my backward flippy thingie! I deserved a ten for squeezing myself into this dress! I got my 10 this week but I don't care no mo! Right now Mario is well ahead of everybody else, if you go entirely on judges scoring and entertainment value. But it's at this point that fanbase is the most important. It's quite possible that Emmitt could knock one of the others out.[BlogEntry] Scrubs Returns!
October 25th, 2006 — Television
Hot off the presses comes NBC's announcement that Scrubs is returning to Thursday nights starting on November 30! They're trying to bring back "Must See Thursday" by coupling Scrubs with their new 30 Rock, as well as hits Earl and The Office.
I wish NBC had some clue what it was doing. Half the time Scrubs is in danger of being cancelled, and the other half the time it is their most popular show. Make up your mind![BlogEntry] Evans quits 'Dancing With the Stars' – Yahoo! News

Evans quits 'Dancing With the Stars' – Yahoo! News
I always wondered what would happen if somebody just quit the show. Sara Evans is getting divorced, and quitting the show to be with her family. So now the logical question is what will the show do? They can't just cut it by a week – way too many things are scheduled out in advance for such a move. Options:- Go dark for a week to "catch up". Not gonna happen, too much of a ratings grabber.
- Have a week where nobody gets eliminated. I think Survivor did this a long time ago when somebody was injured and had to leave the game. Only really works if it's a surprise to the audience, otherwise what's the sense in tuning in?
- Bring back Willa, the most recent elimination. Who, granted, could just get eliminated again.
Naturally I like the last one the best.
[BlogEntry] Dancing with the Stars : Popularity Contest
October 11th, 2006 — Television
Last night, everybody on the program including Jerry Springer got a minimum score of 24 (all 8's). There are six contestants left (Mario, Joey, Sara, Willa, Emmit, Jerry) sharing 6 points at the top. I saw an interesting post over at TVSquad that basically said that judges have taken themselves out of the voting by effectively giving everybody the same score, thus leaving the eliminations up to the audience vote. Compare to last season with Master P, who no one wanted there, so the judges kept giving him lower and lower scores every week until no amount of audience voting could save him.
So then. It's no longer about the dancing, it's about how much you appreciate the effort everybody puts into it. Otherwise Jerry Springer would not be one point away from Joey Lawrence. Given that, who do you vote for? Who is the favorite? Update: Willa? WILLA goes home? See, it's moves like that that take the fun out of the show for me. The producers love it because they can hype the "unpredictable" nature of live television, but everybody watching knows that Willa is a better dancer than Jerry. Maybe the judges will turn it around after all and start marking Jerry down in an attempt to control the results a bit. Just because you try hard doesn't mean that the final results should be a total crapshoot.[BlogEntry] Dancing With The Stars Sept 26 : Len goes nuts!
September 27th, 2006 — Television
I'm not really going to have the time or energy to recap every episode of the show this season. Mostly because I just don't really have any favorites. None of these people mean anything to mean, they're carbon copies of previous seasons. Jerry Springer is fun to cheer for, especially with that whole "I want to reach the waltz level because I want to dance with my daughter at her wedding" thing, but how's he doing anything that George Harrison and John O'Hurley didn't already do?
But this week it got good. Mario Lopez, intent once again on "entertaining" the audience in a way that apparently does not involve ballroom dancing, breaks the rules by breaking hold in the middle of the tango, and Len just lays the smackdown on him. "You're off your head!" he says to him. "Which one of you had that idea? It was fine up until then but when you broke in the middle it was done for me." Carrie Ann even goes so far as to say "You'll go farther in this competition if you follow the rules." Carrie and Bruno both give an 8 with the comment, "It should have been a 10." Len is too pissed to speak and just serves up a 6. But then Joey Lawrence goes and does the same thing, complete with a lift and a random handstand in the middle. Len tells him that he's "going all Mario" and Joey also ends up with a 6 for his trouble. That was the most fun of the night. Look for Sara Evans to get the encore dance, since putting her in a cowboy hat and boots loosened her up enough to get a good dance out of her. She jokes that each week she'll wear a different cowboy hat, which I'd actually like to see. Look for Willa to be gone, because even though she's actually one of the better dancers, the audience just doesn't seem to like her. Her interview where she said "I'm working so hard" about 15 times does not help her personality, though.[BlogEntry] Scrubs : Carla broke her pelvis :-/

[BlogEntry] Scrubs: Zach Braff Uncensored!
September 21st, 2006 — Television
TVGuide has an interview with Zach Braff up! Some highlights:
- His new movie, The Last Kiss, is "much more of a drama" than Garden State. That worries me a bit, because I don't recall laughing at Garden State at all.
- Sarah Chalke is tone deaf, which should make for scary moments on their upcoming musical episode. Everybody else apparently can sing ok.
- He's not decided whether he's leaving, simply that it is now "up in the air". I assume that means contract negotiations. Then again he goes on to say that "there's a bunch of variables that would need to be in place" for him to continue, which sounds like a cop out.
- They're trying to introduce the Arrested Development characters onto the show, starting with David Cross. I never watched AD so I have no idea if this is a good thing.
- They're remaking Fletch, the movie, and apparently Zach will star (again, "up in the air").
So there you go. Still not a new episode of Scrubs, but at least we get some gossip. Is everybody gonna go see his movie? I hear it's got a "different" ending that's going to upset people. I wonder if somebody dies.
[BlogEntry] Scrubs Premiere : Well, in syndication anyway
September 19th, 2006 — Television
The bad news is that Scrubs is probably going to sit on the shelf until midseason like it did last year. The good news, though, is that after 5 years it's finally in syndication, so we can stop watching Friends and Will&Grace reruns and start watching Scrubs reruns.
Thanks to PamelaJaye over in the comments who tells us that it's now on Comedy Central, nightly at 7 and 7:30, random local station, and WGN if you get that. It started last night (Monday, Sept 18, 2006). Check listings.
