[BlogEntry] My family needs to watch more movies
June 11th, 2007 — Family
One morning this past weekend I'm down one end of the hall making a bed. I hear my wife, at the other end of the hall in our bedroom yell, "Are you out there?"
"Yes," I replied, heading back her way. "He's coming to get you," she said, referring to my son who I notice is crawling down the hallway in my direction. So I immediately did what any geek dad would do, I dropped down onto the floor so my face was even with his and said in my best Sylvester Stallone growl, "Murdock….I'm coming to get you!" Pause. Silence. "Aw come on! Rambo II? Anybody?" I then went about explaining to Kerry the whole scene in Rambo II where he's been sent over to the enemy and he's there in the radio room, surrounded by bad guys, talking to the "good" guy who sent him over there in the first place. "Just tell us where you are," says Murdock [the supposed good guy], "And we'll come get you." "Murdock," Rambo says, tightening his grip on the microphone that's about to become a weapon, "…I'm coming to get you!" And then in true Rambo style he kills all the bad guys, and then of course goes back home to give Murdock what's coming to him. Classic. Kerry waits for me to finish and says, "You like that kind of movie?" and goes downstairs with the kids. Well….no, I don't *like* that kind of movie. I actually find that kind of movie relatively stupid. But it is a very *quotable* movie, and that's not the same thing at all. I mean, dear god, Predator is not a good movie, but it might be the greatest, most quotable guy movie ever made. Right up there with Die Hard. Why did I have to have daughters first? How many years before I can watch movies like that with my son?[Comment] Re: American Idol : Lyrics to Home, by Chris Daughtry

Hey guys …
The show is pre-taped. Therefore, NBN already knows what the winning numbers are before any cards are printed. They are aware, before the show ever airs, exactly how many winning cards there will be in circulation. It's actually more like a scratch-off game … the end result is pre-determined.
However, in the game you're talking about, there was mathematically not enough balls called to create a winner. There has to either be 5 of one group (B – I – N – G – O) or one in each group (except N which is a free spot). There hadn't been a B called … which meant there literally coult NOT be a bingo called.
That's really frustrated me the last couple weeks … because there are times that they have cut to the referee/judge guy and ask, "Do we have a bingo?" HUH? Of COURSE we don't have a bingo … there haven't been enough balls drawn out yet!
I think I've played WAY too many games of bingo over the years … haha 🙂

[BlogEntry] Woman Arrested for Making Faces at Police Dog
June 7th, 2007 — News
Wait, what?
In Vermont, a woman was arrested for making faces at a police dog. Apparently she was drunk, and she walked up to the police car window where the dog was waiting inside and began "staring at him in a taunting manner." Then, when she pulled away from officers, they threw on a charge of resisting arrest as well as "cruelty to a police animal." Charges were, of course, later dropped. I'm disappointed that all we get for a description is "stared in a taunting manner." As they say on digg, "Video or it didn't happen." I mean, come on, did she do that thing where she sticks her thumbs in her ears and wiggles her fingers? Or maybe that old "Do that too much and your face will stay like that" face where you pull down on your eyes and push up on your nose? Eyes crossed? Tongue out? What kind of reporting is this??? I need a visual! The problem with this story is that the officers responded entirely in an incorrect way. What they should have done was opened the car door and let the police dog fight his own battles.[Comment] Re: American Inventor : Everything Is Going To Be All Right
